Andy Murray, The Heat, and Athyr Above

Hey, everyone. I really enjoyed watching Andy Murray win his first Wimbledon today. It was a truly historic match since he was the first British man to do so in 77 years. Andy played well and retained his composure under the pressure of a nation's hopes and did so against the #1 player on this planet, Novak Djokavik. Murray won in straight sets to take the crown. Heartfelt congratulations to the new champ.      Yesterday, Carley and I went to the movies and watched The Heat , with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. The movie was superbly acted and directed. It was very funny and if you can stand some adult language, you should check it out. Even after being out for a week, the show was a sellout on a Saturday afternoon when there was a heavy downpour and local flooding.      Sandra Bullock plays FBI agent Ashburn, who reluctantly teams with a local Boston detective to take down a drug gang. The tightly wound Ashburn ...

Iron Man 3, Movie and Game

Hey, everyone. Yesterday I went to see the new Iron Man flick and really enjoyed it. Don't you think that Robert Downey Jr. was born to do this role? Maybe he really was Tony Stark in a past life? His flamboyant, devil-may-care style is endearing. In this film, I love the part where he makes friends with a rural Tennessee lad. Tony is injured, stressed and has a damaged suit. He barters an anti-bullying device into a tuna-fish sandwich and some electronic swag. When you get right down to it, the human element in stories trumps the "wow" factor of special effects. Oh, there are plenty of those in this show. The dramatic attack on Tony's lavish Malibu pad is spectacular.      Stark's denunciation of the Mandarin for the reporters showed Downey's skill as an actor. Great threat! It gave me cold chills. Always liked a good revenge tale. Like in The Cask Of  Amontillado , in which the dude chained his enemy to a wall and bricked him in.      I...

The Wall of Air and the Chainsaw Nomes

Hey, everyone. You guys go to bed late, don't you? I have been up late myself, still playing the new game called March On Oz. I thought I'd toss in a few screen shots to show you the color and graphics.      For a hillbilly like me, it is nice to get out and stroll around a cool place like Oz. I have made some new friends. For instance, I have a friend that is a huge Jack-o-lantern. The trick is that if you tap on him when he is around your enemies, he explodes ice and snow all over them, which cramps their style. His brother pumpkin explodes with fire, which wreaks havoc in the ranks of the Nomes.      Before, I had a Fairy as a guide. Now I have an exotic queen and her daughters. They appreciate my service to Oz so much that they have given me a magic ability to call forth a "Wall of Air". To me it looks like a big granite rock with eyes, but it appears to be an effective defense system. He talks also.     ...

Uneasy Alliance: Flying Monkeys

Hey, everyone. I am still playing a bit of March On Oz , the 99 cent game that will surely wind up being a massive hit. Things are not completely perfect in Oz, though, and I'll tell you why. I have to overcome some lifelong prejudice against Flying Monkeys. I feel the need to unburden myself to y'all (Southern for all-inclusive). When I saw the Wizard of Oz , back in the 1950's, the monkeys got on my bad side when they carried Dorothy and Toto off to the castle of the Wicked Witch of the West. To start with, who would work for someone like her? I mean, you are known by the people that you hang out with. Not only that, but they attacked my favorite guy, the Scarecrow. They took some of him and threw it over there, then they threw some over there... He later told me, in confidence, that some of his straw was placed in a barn and became ... contaminated.     Now, after all these decades, I find myself playing a game in Oz and the Flying Monkeys a...

Cake As Currency (March On Oz)

Hey, everyone. I just bought a game called March On Oz for a paltry price of 99 cents. Here's the recipe. This game reminds me of Plants Vs. Zombies but has a heavy Role Playing style to it. You are swept up by a cyclone and land in Oz. The place is a mess because evil forces are corrupting it.     The main problem is the Nomes, formerly peaceful creatures who are under a spell. Your tutor and guide, a fairy, takes you to meet Ozma, the Princess of Oz. She is under a spell and is being transformed into a tree. This is certainly cool from a 'green' point of view but hinders one's mobility. Ha, ha.      So, Ozma talks you into helping the kingdom. It is at this point that I wish that I had a Scarecrow, with or without brains. But, I will get by with soldiers and Burbury Bakers etc. Oh, yeah. Floating pieces of cake appear. If you tap on them you accumulate in-game currency, hence the title of this post. You English chaps, or was ...

Odd Ending For Mass Effect: Infiltrator

Hey, everyone. Having trouble with my Internet service yet again. My heartfelt appreciation to Wild Blue, possibly .... Never mind.      Tonight I got to see the end of Mass Effect, Infiltrator on my I-Pad. The last chapter is an epic battle with a guy that is a clone of my own character, I guess. He uses weapons identical to my own, cloaks himself in invisibility and levitates himself to escape my fury. It is a protracted battle with your best hope being a ' run an gun' style. I'd like to thank Trevor for his help in this game, enabling me to see the ending. I was stuck in that long hallway with the obnoxious and stubborn snipers. The ending left me wondering. I mean, you stand over the fallen warrior, point your weapon at him and shoot him, while telling his ' boss' that you are coming for him. (You are talking to the boss via comm link.) That is the end, other than a link to a web site.??? At any rate, it was a great game and well worth the $7 or $8 which I ...

Glad To See the Chopper

Hey, everyone. Tonight I finished playing Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. It is a great game and I super-enjoyed it. When we ran out of Page's Antarctica base and saw our transport settling to the ground it was a beautiful sight. Well worth the $6.99 for this game.     Carley is very quiet because she has new puzzle games. She is playing a game which is free for today only, called Mayan Mystery: Hidden Obje ct HD. As you might expect, it is a hidden object game. Ha, ha. She has another one called Clueless Crossword Party . It has crosswords, with a twist or two. For instance, I had a 3 letter word with an 'a' and an 'l' showing. The third square was blank, with a 19 inside it. I went to the list of letters below the board and tapped the 'e'. When I did, every blank square with a 19 in it had an 'e' appear. (The word was ale, by the way.) The whole thing seems more dynamic than working a puzzle from the newspaper and the graphics are nice. I had ...
