      Hey, everyone. I thought I might speak again about the excellent game called Far Cry 2 . Though an older game, I consider it a great shooter game and would like to extend my review to a second installment.      Since we last talked, I have taken several naps, which is a hobby of mine in real life. I also accepted a contract to kill a guy at an airfield. This is not a hobby of mine in real life. Ha, ha. To complete the macabre job, I walked all night. The naps helped me to be able to function, no doubt. Plus, by traveling at night I was able to slip past a couple of camps without fighting a bunch of guys.     Hey, everyone. I saw on the internet, just now, that author Tom Clancy has died. Recently I wrote in a post that he and James Clavell were in a class by themselves as writers. So today, the world has lost a great man and a producer of art. Wilbur Smith would hang with these two guys and considering his advanced years, his loss may be imminent as well. Someone will doubtless step forward to write their types of books, but there will certainly be a vacuum for a while.    Clancy was one of those guys that had me scheduling vacation on the day when his latest book was scheduled to go on sale and there was no way that I would wait for the paperback. These types of guys appear by the handful, not the bucketful; a few in your lifetime. It is wonderful that he received the acclaim he deserved. Not all people do. Somewhere there is a writer as good as Clancy who can't even be published. If you don't believe that, remember that Harry Potter was picked from a slush ...

   Hey, everyone. It has been a pleasure for me to read Wilbur Smith's latest novel called Those In Peril . I consider it to be a solid 4.5 stars out of 5. It is a book I'd highly recommend. Let me say that it is not for the squeamish. It is raw, violent and disquieting. It chronicles some of the most evil men imaginable and their evil deeds. As hardened an old codger as I am, there were a couple of passages which I chose to skip. Here's the recipe for this fine book.     Hazel Bannock is the widow of the powerful founder of Bannock Oil. She is smart, beautiful and tough, yet she is a pain in the butt for her head of security, Hector Cross. She hates Cross because he doesn't kiss up to her. Yet, when her daughter is kidnapped, she turns to Hector Cross for help.    Cayla Bannock has been kidnapped by Adam Tippoo Tip, who is the leader of a band of pirates in the south seas. She is taken to a mountain fortress on the African coast and held for ransom....

    Hey, everyone. There is a warming trend in the southeastern U.S. today, thank goodness. The other night we had about an inch of sleet in ten minutes. It was the hardest sleet downpour I've ever seen. It gets very noisy when sleet hits the dead leaves, believe me.     I have been very busy with Notch 6 , my latest western about the gunman, Cedric Gant. I finished it and am currently preparing it for publication on Amazon and Smashwords.      This morning I looked through my songbooks and found the music to I Will Always Love You . I played it and sang along, thinking about Whitney Houston. By the way, I'd like to thank the nice lady for her comments on the post I did about Whitney. I'll look forward to that.     The Memorial Day weekend is zooming in fast. I haven't checked the movies that are opening but I do know that The Hangover 2 premiers. The first one was really funny but a bit crude in places, even for me. I was hoping for a blockbuster film this weekend but usually there are two weeks, at least, between the big films. I know that X-Men, First Class comes out a week from today, Friday. I'm looking forward to that and to Green Lantern, which comes out a couple of weeks after X-Men. When we were kids, reading these comics, who among us would have believed they'd go mainstream and be the subject of flicks that cost 150 million dollars to make? It looks like the guy playing Hal Jordan, (Green Lantern) is going to do a great job and be funny. ...

    I've heard all my life that cats hate water. Since I've moved to the wilderness I've learned that animals are rather unpredictable. Their actions depend on the individual critter, their needs, the whim of the moment and a zillion other things. Let me tell you another true story to illustrate.      It was a rainy evening, about thirty minutes before dark. The weather was warm and I had been sitting on my deck at the back of my house. As usual, I had sipped a couple of beers and listened to some music on my I-pod. The drizzling rain had coaxed me under the eave of the house at the glass doors which open to the deck and the forest.      My eye was attracted to a movement from my right, only about thirty feet away. When I swiveled my head I saw a mountain lion walking past the house in a direction that would take it past the side of my house to the front yard.
