Games, Books and Power Plants

Hey, everyone. There is a warming trend in the southeastern U.S. today, thank goodness. The other night we had about an inch of sleet in ten minutes. It was the hardest sleet downpour I've ever seen. It gets very noisy when sleet hits the dead leaves, believe me.
I have been very busy with Notch 6, my latest western about the gunman, Cedric Gant. I finished it and am currently preparing it for publication on Amazon and Smashwords.
This morning I looked through my songbooks and found the music to I Will Always Love You. I played it and sang along, thinking about Whitney Houston. By the way, I'd like to thank the nice lady for her comments on the post I did about Whitney. Thanks for reading the blog.
There has been a bit of a dry spell in IOS games that are coming out. I have not been too fired up about any new games lately. This gives me the opportunity to go back and conquer some of those games that I am stuck on. Last night I revisited Modern Combat 2, Black Pegasus. This is a good game but I have been stuck on it for months. I am at the part where the enemy is in a tank. He is shooting at me, as are some foot-soldiers. I must alternate between two weapons, two fights, and I find this difficult. I shall persevere, at least until I delete the darn thing.
I am reading a hardcover book which I recieved for Christmas. It is Those in Peril by the action writer extraordinaire, Wilbur Smith. I am very much enjoying this thriller about a young woman who has been kidnapped by terrorists. Her mother, and a ruthless security specialist, move heaven and earth to get the young woman back. Nobody does action like Wilbur Smith. Not even me. I will do a full book review on this when I finish it.
Yesterday, I downloaded a free game called Steamscope HD. In this game you guide yourself through a bunch of steam tunnels by tilting your I-Pad. There are hazards to avoid and the graphics are exceptional. I found that this game brought back memories of the years that I worked in power plants. I thought about crawling through tight spots, hot spots, places where you could get crushed if you were between two pipes when one of them moved. That is called pipe-whip. When a pipe has a sudden flow of water or steam, it can move several inches. Also, if there is a high pressure steam leak, it can cut you in half. I am almost certain that stuff like that is not included in this game. Hopefully. Superheated steam is invisible. In the old days, powerhouse guys would walk around the turbine and hold a broom in front of them. If the broom caught on fire, you'd know there was a steam leak.
One more thing on gaming. We just bought the latest in the series of match three games called Treasures of Montezuma 3. We have had all three of this series and we like them. This version has nice graphics and gameplay. I must say that I don't like the fact that this version is timed. I prefer not to be timed in my gaming. I don't like pressure. Ha, ha. How do those writers deal with having to have a book out every three months or whatever. A publisher calling and harping about deadlines. Yuck.
Well, there's the update on my boring and busy life. That, reader, is an odd combination.

The White Chicken Mystery

The other night I happened to come home very late. It was the middle of the night and I was driving up a steep mountain road. Near the top I saw something white in my headlights. It was standing in the other lane, standing very still. It was a large white chicken. It was probably a rooster because I thought I could see his comb as I whizzed by at my customary pace. He never moved a muscle. This is weird, don't you think?      After a couple of days to consider this phenomenon, I have come up with some plausible answers for his bizarre behavior. 1. He was conflicted whether or not he should cross the road. 2. He was feeling cocky and decided to play chicken with the traffic. 3.He was being hen-pecked at home and had decided to end it all. 4. Someone had egged him on to do it. 5. He had just watched the movie Fantastic Four and decided to try to stop a truck the way that Ben Grimm did on the bridge. 6. He had driven himself crazy wondering if ...

Egg Art

Hey, everyone. One of the odd customs in America is the Easter Egg Hunt. Here at the Green Retreat, we do a hunt every Spring. I just ran across some of the pictures from this years hunt and it is obvious that an artist had sneaked into our midst. The orange egg is a rendering of one of the Angry Birds of gaming lore. If I were a bird and had to pass an egg that size, I would be angry too. Ha, ha.      We typically will dye about 10 dozen eggs and people get quite creative with their quotes and colors, as you can see. Many of the eggs are a bit risque for these pages. After having a few laughs, we hide the eggs. All of them are never found, which is cool. It is amusing to see old men (me) and all ages of folks, walking around with a basket on their arm. Some of the hiding spots are dastardly. Like eggs hidden in the guttering downspouts and ten foot up a tree. The kids are perhaps the most devious at hiding the colorful orbs, goi...

Cake Is Better Than Swords

Hey, everyone. On Thanksgiving, we had a get-together here at The Author's Green Retreat. One lady brought a cake which I wanted to show you. It had the look of a Roman Coliseum about it. Inside it was just as decadent...and fun, as ancient Rome. When I cut it open, homemade marshmallow cream began to ooze out in several spots, running over the chocolate cake and peanut butter icing. It is best served warm so the cream is fluid. Very tasty. The same lady, and her children, are people who have played a lot of Skyrim. They gave me some pointers on the game because I am having problems with it. They taught me how to fast travel, and a ton of other things, but the main thing was the armor and clothing problem. This is a little embarrassing, but let me explain. Okay. For several weeks when I played, I would enter towns and everyone I met would comment on my nakedness. I would select a tunic and shoes, whatever, go back around people and they would say something about it. I guess I w...
