Assorted Subjects: Burgers and Drones

Hey, everyone. So, what's up? Today is a pretty day with sunshine and a temperature in the forties. I was thinking about raking and burning leaves. I wasn't thinking about it very seriously, just thinking about it. Ha, ha.      I had a cool burger last night. If you ever get a chance to try this one you should consider it. It was a huge rascal, so big that even my mouth had difficulty wrapping around it. It was a bacon and egg burger with all the trimmings. I must say that it was perhaps the best burger I ever ate. The leaky egg made it so moist and tasty. Of course, I like eggs with steak for breakfast on rare occasion and I really like beer with that dish as well, or champagne.     Hey, did you see where they are getting on the James Bond character for his boozing? Yeah. They already made it socially unacceptable for him to smoke. Next will be his womanizing, no doubt. Soon, all literature, games, movies, T.V. and print media will ...

Gaming Adventures

Hey, everyone. For the last few weeks I have been investigating the high-stakes, live on the razor's edge world of gaming. It happened on this wise.     I have been just a tad aggravated with I-Pad gaming for reasons that I have talked about at length on these pages. So, I borrowed an X-Box 360 for the purpose of ascertaining if it would be a feasible source of amusement for a guy with 60 plus years under his belt. I had tried it once before but the controls seemed difficult compared to my Padster. In fact, the tech seemed, dare I say it?) shrouded in the mists of the past compared to touch screen controls on my I-Pad Air.     This time around, I was determined to give it a fair try and play it for a few days or weeks until I decided whether or not to invest in a PS4, a PS3, an X-Box One or an X-Box 360. True to form, I exhaustively read reviews and sought counseling about the matter. My gaming mentor, the doughty Trevor, said tha...

Odd Ending For Mass Effect: Infiltrator

Hey, everyone. Having trouble with my Internet service yet again. My heartfelt appreciation to Wild Blue, possibly .... Never mind.      Tonight I got to see the end of Mass Effect, Infiltrator on my I-Pad. The last chapter is an epic battle with a guy that is a clone of my own character, I guess. He uses weapons identical to my own, cloaks himself in invisibility and levitates himself to escape my fury. It is a protracted battle with your best hope being a ' run an gun' style. I'd like to thank Trevor for his help in this game, enabling me to see the ending. I was stuck in that long hallway with the obnoxious and stubborn snipers. The ending left me wondering. I mean, you stand over the fallen warrior, point your weapon at him and shoot him, while telling his ' boss' that you are coming for him. (You are talking to the boss via comm link.) That is the end, other than a link to a web site.??? At any rate, it was a great game and well worth the $7 or $8 which I ...

Electronic Trust

Hey, everyone. Check out this weird mushroom I found. Looks edible, not. Ha, ha.    Hey, I noticed that EA Games has taken the liberty of putting game adds on their paid game called Mass Effect Infiltrator. Irritating. Maybe it's time for some rules on the app store about adds being placed in games after the initial buy. Evidently they can do this without me downloading an update, which begs the question: are they talking back and forth to my I-Pad at liberty, and without my knowledge? I don't know this, just wondering.      I just bought the newest novel by John Locke. It's about a psycho doctor who decides he is going to try out an on-line dating service. He has issues in dealing with social interaction. He is not a 'people' person. Moreover, he sometimes kills other doctors' patients and breaks into people's homes. Should be different, at least. I have yet to read one of Locke's books which I didn't enjoy. I bought this one as ...

How To Kill the Ogre Mech

Hey, everyone. If you are trying to play through the terrific shooter game called Mass Effect Infiltrator , one of the places on which you will get stuck is at the end of Chapter 7. There is a thing called an Ogre Mech and to say that he is resilient would be a gross understatement. He is practically indestructible. After failing to kill him countless times I accidentally stumbled on a way to dispose of the bounder.      When the Ogre Mech appears, there is also a squad of Geth Warriors in the area. I always just jumped in and fought all of them. Then, since the Geth were easier to kill, I tried to kill all of them first, then turned to fight the Mech.      What I didn't realize was that the Geth and the Mech were fighting each other, as well as me! Heck, let them kill each other and make the world a better place to live. Here's how to do it. When the Ogre Mech first appears, run straight at him, then past him to the do...

Game Review: Letterbox

Hey, everyone. I bought a game this morning which you may enjoy, if you like word games. It is called Letterbox and it cost $1.99.     This game has superb graphics and animations. In addition, I think the developers have been reading my blog because they actually put explosions in this game to make it more palatable with the shooter crowd. Here's the recipe.     There is a tower of blocks, with each block bearing a letter. The 3D feature insures that there is depth, as well as height and width, giving several layers of blocks which can be accessed by spinning the tower with your finger of choice. Ha, ha.      You must spell out words by tapping letters, of course. You can spell them across, down, up, diagonally, and can even wrap around to another side of the tower by means of spinning the tower. You must use at least three letters per word, which challenges my vocabulary. Over the course of the game I endeavored ...

Something Old, Something New

Hey, everyone. I wanted to show you a picture of the Lizard Dude from Mass Effect, Infiltrator . As you can see, he is as ugly as a mud fence. If you follow the blog, you know that this bully beat me like a rented mule before my pard, Trevor, came along and annihilated him. Then there was peace on the Ponderosa, as we western fans like to say. I have currently beat a couple of more levels of this fun game. I am close to the finish and eagerly await my reunion with Inalli, my love interest on this rather warlike planet.      Let me show a little love to the puzzlers among you . My wife, Carley, is playing a free game she likes. They call this one GraviMaze. The goal of this game is simple, yet gets increasingly harder to fulfill. There are a series of square grids. You can swipe with your finger and rotate the grid. By doing this, you cause gravity to pull an icon along a corridor. The object is to collect gold coins by sliding across them and rea...

Mass Effect Infiltrator Update

Hey, everyone. earlier in the evening, I started to post a blog that suggested you refrain from buying this game. I was stuck on the second level and it was extremely tough. I was having a hard time getting used to the controls and developing a strategy. For sure, you need to ignore the instructions when they try to get you to jump from behind cover. This will get you killed and you have to start the level over, yet again. I do not exaggerate when I say I played the Ice Giant level 30-40 times before I beat it. When I finally beat it and moved on, I was transported to a mother ship and was on my way to see the nice-sounding Inalli, only to see armed interlopers on our huge vessel. So I got into a pitched battle with these rogues while listening to a propaganda recording of our fearless leader. One suggestion for EA Games, please give us the ability to mute that guy's B.S. without muting the musical sound of our gunfire.      The credits (in-game c...
