Arctic Sniper

Hey, everyone. It has been a crazy weather week in the South. Tons of rain and some flooding. Perhaps snow and other stuff moving in tomorrow. I saw snow on the radar for Mississippi. Very rare. I like that state very much and I've traveled the length of it many times. But, I digress from my stated mission of talking about a game. It's funny, but back in the 1970's I was a weather person and ran a storm detection radar. It was considered high-tech at the time. Now, everybody has better equipment on their phone. Whatever.
I downloaded a free sniper game today. It is called ISniper 3D Arctic Warfare. It is fairly entertaining here in the early stages. You can play it in 'Story Mode' or just a survival mode. I have played the story mode. You play as a military type who winds up in prison after a mission. After a few months a former associate comes to the prison and gets you released, with one proviso: you must go on another mission. So, you go.
The first mission opens with you on a hill, overlooking a military installation which someone has had the poor judgement to build in a frozen, deserted wasteland. Why not build it in the Bahamas? You have a cool sniper scope. If you tap a button, you go to your scope. Then you can adjust in and out, up and down. You have to move right along, dispatching targets, or they will find you and shoot back, which makes life less fun. And possibly shorter. The graphics are pretty good and the controls are a bit sluggish on my I-Pad 3. Sometimes you have to tap a button several times to get the desired results. However, for a free game, it is very fine, thank you very much.
I am still playing a lot of Alien Zone. I have played about half of the levels and had a blast with it. No pun intended. The variety of the game is nice. I have just gotten eradicated by a huge monster who looks like a giant crab. He'll see me again, I can assure you of that.
I have a strategy for you on this game, by the way. When you get jumped on by a bunch of monsters, hit the button that releases blue electricity. Some foes will die, some won't. Those that are filled with some weird gas will explode and decorate the transformers or whatever.  Then tap the button that makes you impervious to harm for a few seconds. Then start using your gun on the remaining bugs. You have unlimited ammo, thank goodness.
Just when I was feeling cocky about my system, I wandered into an area where some sort of anomaly kept causing my electric bolts to ...uhhh, discharge prematurely. Therefore I had no pent up power. This wasn't too long before super-crab attacked me. He can sure take a lot of lead in his armored behind.
One more tip. Buy a gun that is a level 8, along with some cool armor, if you want to rock and roll past the first few levels. Also, keep about 15 or 20 med-packs on hand. You'll have plenty of credits for the med-packs, if you'll just pick them up from the remains of the bugsters. You can always wash your hands.
Well, I am tired and sleepy. I bid you sweet dreams and good games. I'm CE Wills.

  1. A single game can bring excellent graphics and the same tension and challenge that a real sniper might face.

The White Chicken Mystery

The other night I happened to come home very late. It was the middle of the night and I was driving up a steep mountain road. Near the top I saw something white in my headlights. It was standing in the other lane, standing very still. It was a large white chicken. It was probably a rooster because I thought I could see his comb as I whizzed by at my customary pace. He never moved a muscle. This is weird, don't you think?      After a couple of days to consider this phenomenon, I have come up with some plausible answers for his bizarre behavior. 1. He was conflicted whether or not he should cross the road. 2. He was feeling cocky and decided to play chicken with the traffic. 3.He was being hen-pecked at home and had decided to end it all. 4. Someone had egged him on to do it. 5. He had just watched the movie Fantastic Four and decided to try to stop a truck the way that Ben Grimm did on the bridge. 6. He had driven himself crazy wondering if ...

Cake Is Better Than Swords

Hey, everyone. On Thanksgiving, we had a get-together here at The Author's Green Retreat. One lady brought a cake which I wanted to show you. It had the look of a Roman Coliseum about it. Inside it was just as decadent...and fun, as ancient Rome. When I cut it open, homemade marshmallow cream began to ooze out in several spots, running over the chocolate cake and peanut butter icing. It is best served warm so the cream is fluid. Very tasty. The same lady, and her children, are people who have played a lot of Skyrim. They gave me some pointers on the game because I am having problems with it. They taught me how to fast travel, and a ton of other things, but the main thing was the armor and clothing problem. This is a little embarrassing, but let me explain. Okay. For several weeks when I played, I would enter towns and everyone I met would comment on my nakedness. I would select a tunic and shoes, whatever, go back around people and they would say something about it. I guess I w...

Egg Art

Hey, everyone. One of the odd customs in America is the Easter Egg Hunt. Here at the Green Retreat, we do a hunt every Spring. I just ran across some of the pictures from this years hunt and it is obvious that an artist had sneaked into our midst. The orange egg is a rendering of one of the Angry Birds of gaming lore. If I were a bird and had to pass an egg that size, I would be angry too. Ha, ha.      We typically will dye about 10 dozen eggs and people get quite creative with their quotes and colors, as you can see. Many of the eggs are a bit risque for these pages. After having a few laughs, we hide the eggs. All of them are never found, which is cool. It is amusing to see old men (me) and all ages of folks, walking around with a basket on their arm. Some of the hiding spots are dastardly. Like eggs hidden in the guttering downspouts and ten foot up a tree. The kids are perhaps the most devious at hiding the colorful orbs, goi...
