After a grueling operation, Box goes on a bender that involves going to visit three women in rural Kentucky that he 'met' on line. I would like to say that these women run the gamut between harmless and dangerous but that would be a misrepresentation. They are all dangerous. One of them has lied about all her particulars. Worse than that, she has pet seahorses and makes a particular powder that can be used as a weapon. The powder contains ground glass, among other things.
Without giving away too much of the plot, Dr. Box visits the three ladies, is arrested, threatened, beaten, hanged and robbed. He falls in love, as much as he is capable of doing, with a fourth lady who serves his meal in a restaurant. This lady, Trudy, is a match for the doctor's acid wit and scathing personality disorder. She also has a family tree that could give some people nightmares.
The book is fast paced, action packed and very different. It is also very funny. I would rate it as 4.5 stars out of 5. It is a little gross, even by my odd standards. Ha, ha. If you are squeamish, read something else. It is a very reasonable $2.99 at the on-line stores. (ebook price) It is, I gather, the second book about Dr. Box. I have not read the first one, but I plan to.
