Looking Forward to the NFL Playoffs

Hey, everyone. It should be a great postseason. Seattle at Washington will be the battle of the rookie quarterbacks. Seattle will not have its 12th man along in D.C. I'd have to pick the Redskins to win. I really felt bad for Tony Romo tonight. His receivers didn't fight for the ball enough and Tony made several poor throws. Man, the spotlight is intense on these guys. Not a lot of room for failure in this league.
The Falcons lost a meaningless game today against Tampa Bay. I hope that John Abraham and Dunta Robinson can heal quickly.
Adrian Petersen may be a mutant, I'm not sure. I'd like to have seen the big guy break Eric Dickerson's record for yardage. Eric was a big, fast, tough runner, back in the day. I'd like to see Minnesota beat the Pack in Green Bay next weekend but I doubt it will happen. Back in the Bud Grant regime in Viking lore, I felt bad that they never got their Super Bowl rings. They went to the big game 4 or 5 times, if I can remember correctly. I liked Fran Tarkenton. He was a great, mobile quarterback and probably doesn't get the credit he deserves. And that is most likely due to the lack of a Super Bowl ring. Whatever.
Hey, you older guys who have followed the Giants for a while? The other day I thought about Y. A. Tittle throwing the 'bombs' to Del Shofner. Those were the days. Both the Giants and the Jets are out of the playoffs...
Tough luck for the Houston Texans, falling from their lofty perch as the number one seed. They are now the three seed and play Cinncinatti at home. Didn't those two teams have a great game in the playoffs recently? I forget. ( I looked it up. They played last year and it wasn't that close.) The hopes of Texas rests on the Oilers Houston team now that the Cowboys have ridden into the sunset.
When the Broncos were losing a lot, early in the year, it was hard to imagine that they would win 9 in a row and get the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Makes John Elway look smart, signing Manning.
I was thinking about the quarterback mess in the Jets' season. That problem started during Sanchez's rookie campaign, in a way. I remember after one loss, during a post-game interview, Rex Ryan pretty much blamed the loss on Mark, sort of throwing the youngster under the bus. Can't expect a rookie QB to develop a ton of confidence in his coach with that kind of start. What happened to the old mantra of "Win as a team, lose as a team"? Ever since then, it has been a struggle for the youngster, with other quarterbacks brought in and controversy abounding. I respect Tim Tebow, but if he goes to another team, it needs to be understood that he is the starter from the get-go, to avoid another circus.
Well, 2012 is almost over. It was a very tough year for me. I have persevered, however, and stand on the cusp of another opportunity in the new year. It would be cool if the Atlanta Falcons went on a sweet playoff run to set the mood. Goodnight from the green retreat.
   I'm CE Wills.

It's So Easy

Hey, everyone, out there in etherland. I've been playing some new songs this morning on my keyboard. You may remember a Buddy Holly tune called It's So Easy . I hadn't matched the title to the song before today so I was delighted when I saw that it was the one that goes like this: "It's so easy to fall in love, it's so easy to fall in love." It rocks pretty good. A later version of it, after amps and guitars had improved, really rocked. It seems like Joan Jett may have done a version. Anyway, I was playing this song and I thought about a fun thing I like to do. Sometimes I'll start to play a song and tell Carley, or the grandkids, whoever may be there, a silly story about it.      For instance, I would say that once upon a time Buddy Holly came to me and said, "CE, I need a hit, my man. The kids need shoes. I want to go on American bandstand, you know what I'm saying?"     "Yeah, Buddy, I hear you. But the thing is, I think ...

The Biscuit

Hey, everyone. What a relief that Christmas is over, huh? I don't think it was meant to be the way it is.     I started thinking about the so-called good 'ole days today. My wife says that at her house, they would take a left-over biscuit and shine their shoes before church. I one-upped her by saying, "Oh, yeah? I ate the biscuit when everyone got finished with it. And I was grateful for it." Truly, though, you can and people did, shine their shoes with a biscuit. Hey, they were greasy little buggers.     Speaking of greasy little buggers, I remember when everyone had wells and were very conservative about water, particularly those of us who had to crank a handle up and down to get a bucket of water. There was no daily bath. (No showers in those days, mate.) About twice a week we took a bath and here's the recipe: The oldest kid took a bath first, then the next oldest etc. You can see why younger siblings hated the older. Bathing in the...

Movie Review: Limitless

Hey, everyone. I ventured off the mountain today, down into the haunts of men. I'll tell you about a movie I saw, then later I'll tell you about some other stuff. The movie is Unlimited . This is a story that you would have to call science fiction, but in the not so distant future you may call it reality.      Bradley Cooper plays Edward Morra. If you looked up loser in the dictionary you would see this guy's picture. He has freeloaded off his girlfriend for years. He claims to be a writer but can't seem to put words on paper. His woman leaves him; he is a scroungy, dirty dude with no future, no drive and no money. He is about to be evicted from his scummy apartment.     Then he bumps into an old friend. The friend wants him to try a new drug which comes in the form of a small, clear pill. What Edward doesn't know is that the pill is pretty awesome. The drug is designed to unlock the true potential of the human brain. We only use a...
