Hey, everyone. Happy Independence Day, to all you folks in the U.S.A.
I forgot to send along my congratulations to my Canadian viewers the other day when I was talking about Wimbledon tennis. Milos Raonic played in the semis and lost to Federer. Eugenie Bouchard is in the finals on Saturday and I'll be pulling for her. Also, Canadian Vasek Pospisil will be in the doubles finals. I get a big charge out of seeing people, athletes and nations make a breakthrough in any field of endeavor. To have both a man and a woman reach the semis at the big W for the first time is awesome. Last year Andy Murray made his breakthrough and I enjoyed that.
This morning I watched Novak Djokovic beat Grigor Dimitrov. I was surprised when Novak allowed himself to get so flustered. I really liked Dimitrov's demeanor. All business, hustle and energy. He didn't really seem to play tight at all, despite the big stage. Admittedly, he had several double faults but he continued to just punish the ball.
John McEnroe is a terrific commentator for tennis. It was tedious, at times, to watch him play, but he is excellent in the booth.
Can you believe that Hollywood didn't have some sort of blockbuster coming out this weekend? Something like Avengers 2, Age of Ultron, or whatever. Maybe everyone is going to see Echo. I gather that it is similar to the E.T. movie from a few decades ago.
Carley has found a new puzzle game called Search 4 It. I tried a bit of it and found it palatable, even for an action gamer such as myself. Here's the recipe.
You have a board full of jumbled letters and you do a word search for a specific category of names or words. For instance, Carley asked me to help her identify women singers. Neither of us are that good with pop culture but I was able to pick out 'Beyonce' and she found 'Madonna'. Another category was Nintendo characters. Again, not the strong suit of the elderly. We persevered, together, and picked out Mario and his compatriots. This game is made by the husband/wife team that made Chain of Thought, a great game for parties. Like that game, 'Search 4 It' is free with an option to buy other puzzle packs for 99 cents each. My wife bought every pack of Chain of Thought. We put that up on the T.V. screen and played it as a group at a get-together.
Several months ago, I bought The Amazing Spiderman 2. (Pictured above.) I wasn't blogging at that time and I hate that I didn't give a blow-by-blow of my travels through the game. I enjoyed it very much, despite some glitches and irritations. The game is one that I paid a decent price for and had to buy some in-apps as well. I perhaps should have said, I chose to buy some in-apps, because I am not sure if I would have had to do it. I am now on the very last scene of the game, I think. I am fighting the mechanical version of the Rhino and he is kicking my Hino. I have deserted it and moved on to other games, easier prey, as it were. I have also moved on from Lego Marvel Heroes. I played over to the level that requires 200 gold bricks and I find the going rather tough. After going back and gleaning for bricks in the previous levels several times, I have decided to go to other games.
I played the older game called Bladeslinger last night. It has plenty of action and battles. I like the fact that the dude can pull his six-shooter and blast a monster, then punch his face with a bionic fist, then apply the coup-de-gras with a blade. All the occult symbols and demons make me uncomfortable, as I said when the game came out, but the graphics and game play are extremely well done.
I don't think that I mentioned my extensive foray into the Infinity Blade Trilogy during my blog hiatus. I played #1 all the way through, then started #2 and played it all the way through. Then I played #3 all the way through and wondered why in the heck they had failed to include Isa in the games all the time. Wow.
At any rate, I had a ball with this series and couldn't understand why I had never done more than scratched the surface of them. I bought them all when they came out. One thing, I changed my style when I began play this time and used my head about upgrades and weapons. I judiciously made a couple of in-app buys also. I played the three games over a couple of months, sometimes far into the night. I discovered that there was a whole subculture of fans that have delved into the games' mysteries and much of it is shared on-line. Like dealing with the dragons, for instance. Then the deal about the room with all the pieces of armor and weapons that remained behind bars for so long, as I fought my way through spooky castles. When I figured out how to cope with that, I had already achieved better gear, but I was not bitter.
Did you know that people actually customize outfits of armor for Isa, the female warrior? I mean, it's not Victoria's Secret but it might be sold at Bondage R Us. Ha, ha. The bottom line is, these games are as deep as you want to get. If you casually played them before, give them an intense shot. I think you'll like it.
While I was playing the Infinity Blade series, I was also watching the Game of Thrones series, starting with season one and going forward to the current episode. I loved every minute of it. Well, most of it. Ha, ha. With all the blade action in the two series, Infinity Blade and Game of Thrones, I was beginning to hear steel ringing in my ears, during my dreams. (Sort of like a refugee from a Wolverine movie.)
Well, I have rambled on, but I am glad you dropped by the author's green retreat tonight.
I'm CE Wills.
P.S. The high temperature today was around 80 degrees.
